What time is the best to start-up the irrigation system?

Irrigation systems are winterized to protect the elements from freeze. With the system start-up it is necessary to wait until spring freezes are over which usually falls on the beginning of April. At the same time most of the plants do not need extra watering till May as there is sufficient moisture available in the soil. Generally we can say irrigation systems could be started in the first half of May. We should not over-react the warm spring days when the topsoil is dried out. The root zone of the turf is going down to 10-20cm, where the moisture content should be observed. For this it is practical to dig one spit deep and check the water content of soil at depth of 20 cm.

Amennyiben napközben sem megy a hőmérséklet fagypont fölé, úgy a rendszerben lévő víz fokozatosan - a talajszinttől lefelé haladva - megfagy. Huzamosabb hideg periódus esetén a táguló jég nagy eséllyel tönkretesz egyes szórófejeket. Tapasztalatunk azt mutatja, hogy a Rain Bird mágnesszelepek nagy eséllyel még ilyenkor sem sérülnek. Extrém hideg időjárás esetén természetesen számítani kell arra, hogy a berendezéseken túl akár a csőhálózat is sérül. Az elmulasztott víztelenítést csak akkor lehet pótolni, amennyiben a hőmérséklet huzamosabb ideig fagypont feletti.
